Starting school

Children are normally admitted to school at the start of or during the reception year, that is the school year in which they become 5.

You must apply for a place in the reception class that starts in September 2020 if your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016.

It is important to read the Starting School Booklet (PDF) on how to enrol your child into school.

Apply online

We strongly recommend you apply for a school place using the online facility, which will be available to you at the start of the admissions process.

If you can't use the online system,  you can collect an application form from your local school or download a copy of the Starting School application form (PDF).

Please do not use the online facility or this application form if you are applying for a nursery place. You should contact the school for information about the application process.

Please contact the School Admissions Service on admissions@bedford.gov.uk if you need advice about applying for a school place,

Closing date for applications

15 January 2020.

Free home to school transport to Renhold Primary School

Please note: from 1 September 2020, free home to school transport will no longer be provided from the Aspire, The Spires and Cranborne Gardens estates to Renhold Primary School. This means that if you reside in those areas and your child attends Renhold Primary School, you will need to make your own arrangements for ensuring your child attends school.

If you have already submitted an application for Renhold Primary School for starting school in September 2020 and now wish to change your preferences for your school place for your child, the last day to do so is 20 February 2020. You can do this by putting your request in writing to the Schools Admissions Team at admissions@bedford.gov.uk.

National Offer Day is 16 April 2020

If you have applied online, you will receive an email to let you know the outcome of your application. In addition, as the results will be posted to the online system overnight, you can log into your account to access the result of your application. If you have not applied online, we will post a letter to you on this day.

Those of you who have not been offered a place at your first preference school will also be sent a copy of this information about the number of offers and places at each school (PDF) and how to lodge an appeal.
