Bedford Shopmobility is a registered charity which provides mobility aids (battery-powered scooters and manual wheelchairs) to help people who have limited mobility, through age or disability, to shop and use the facilities in Bedford town centre.
The scheme is based in The Mobility Hub which is in the former Travel Centre in the Bedford bus station. This location is of great convenience for disabled and older people using accessible buses to travel into the town centre.
The scheme is also close to the Allhallows Multi-Storey Car Park where there are a lot of parking spaces for Blue Badge Holders and there is a wheelchair-accessible lift. Those who use taxis can be dropped off close to the shop in Allhallows.
Shopmobility is open from 10.30am to 2.30pm (Monday to Friday).
There is a small charge for those wishing to register to hire the equipment, and a returnable deposit each time equipment is hired. For more details please call in at The Mobility Hub or call on 01234 348000.
The Mobility Hub is a working partnership between Bedford Shopmobility and the Bedfordshire Rural Community Charity and particularly their ‘Door to Door’ service.
