Door to Door

Transport difficulties for wheelchair and restricted mobility users?

Door to Door provides wheelchair accessible minibuses for people unable to use public transport in the Bedford area. The aim is to provide a safe, accessible service for those who are unable to use ordinary public transport due to disability, either temporary or permanent.

Vehicles used are constructed for ease of access, even if a wheelchair is required, all vehicles are fitted with a tail lift and staff can escort you to or from your door if needed. The staff and volunteers of Door to Door aim to provide at all times a reliable, personal and friendly service, allowing added freedom and independence.

Service for more rural areas

We also have a similar service, called Wheels in Motion, which uses wheelchair accessible cars and is aimed at those living in the less accessible rural areas.

What can I use Door to Door for?

You can use Door to Door for many kinds of journeys. For example you can use it to go shopping, visit friends or relatives, for work, recreational or educational purposes. Door to Door can also transport you to hospital for an appointment, but due to difficulties ascertaining the length of stay, we regret we cannot provide the return journey. However, we will transport you both ways if you are visiting someone.

Bookings must be made in advance

As a member of Door to Door you are able to request as many journeys as you wish, but please bear in mind that we only have limited resources and may not be able to meet all requests. We try our hardest to meet your requested journey times, but sometimes have to ask you to be flexible, so that we can better serve as many customers as possible.

Here to help

All staff are subject to enhanced checks with the Disclosure & Barring Scheme (previously CRB). All drivers have undergone training with the national Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MiDAS)and are re-assessed regularly. In addition we are also working towards all staff being trained in the national Passenger Awareness Training Scheme (PATS) and being fully recognised by the Bedford Borough Council ‘badge’ scheme.
