Exciting event on Tuesday 11 June will see the launch of new SEND services website
Local Offer Live! is an innovative event designed for children and young people with Special Education Educational Needs and/or Disabilities and their parents and carers. They will be able to ask any questions they like, exchange ideas, meet people and attend a fun event in the evening.
The event will introduce Bedford Borough's "Local Offer" - a website that is not just a directory of services – but a site set to become the first port of call for anyone seeking information about SEND services. Providing signposting and guidance as well as support and should be used as a key tool for the local area to drive improvements.
Local Offer Live! organised by Bedford Borough Council (BBC), Bedford Borough Parent Carer Forum and Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), is made up of two sessions - one during the day and one in the evening. The day-time session is an opportunity to take part in workshops around education, health and in using the new Local Offer website.
Senior officers from the Council, CCG and other health providers will be taking part in a ‘Speed Dating’ exercise, where anyone can book a ten-minute slot to ask specific questions and have an informal chat. This will be followed by a ‘Question Time’ style forum so questions can be put directly to a panel of senior managers from education, health and social care.
The second part of Local Offer Live! takes place in the evening and will welcome Children, Young People and their parents and carers to a fun-packed event with performances from local groups and other activities. Young people will also have the opportunity to talk to health, education and social care professionals about what matters to them.
Cllr James Valentine, Executive Member for Education and Children’s Services, said: “Bedford Borough Council is committed to providing high quality services for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We have worked closely with our partners to ensure information about all our services is easily accessible online. We look forward to hearing from children, young people and their parents, carers and health professionals at the Local Offer Live! event to promote these services and launch our new website.”
Anne Murray, BCCG’s Director of Nursing and Quality, said: “Improving access to local SEND services is a priority for Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group and its partners. The new Local Offer website is an important step in ensuring parents, carers, GPs and other healthcare professionals have the information they need to design and deliver the right package of health and social care to meet the specific needs of young people.”
Local Offer Live! is taking place on Tuesday 11 June at King's House, 245 Ampthill Road, Bedford. Anyone with an interest in local SEND services is welcome.
