The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

In celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, activities and events will take place across Bedford Borough to mark the occasion.

Guide to holding street parties

To help residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, Bedford Borough Council is waiving the usual administration fee for street party road closures.

Street parties are a great opportunity for communities to come together, usually organised by groups of residents who get together and make arrangements to celebrate with their neighbours, friends and families.

  • Small events under 150 attendees do not need Public Liability Insurance.
  • Large events over 150 people do need Public Liability Insurance.
  • The organisers will be responsible for the health and safety of all attendees and any costs arising.
  • A small event can only be held on a cul de sac or minor roads.

Borough Council Officers will make a judgment on traffic measures required. Please contact to request a temporary road closure to facilitate your street party.

You can visit GOV.UK for a guide to organising a street party.

You can also find if any street parties have been organised near you on the Platinum Jubilee website.

Queen’s Green Canopy

We are proud to be planting 10,000 trees across the Borough in 2021 and 2022.

The Queen’s Green Canopy is a national planting initiative to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Over 2021 and 2022 everyone across the country is invited to get involved and plant a tree.

The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 ancient woodlands across the UK and identify 70 ancient trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
