The Council’s Capital programme sets out our how we invest money on schemes and projects to improve Bedford Borough. With reducing resources it is vital that we use the limited funds available for projects that offer a real benefit.
We are consulting on this year’s Capital Programme and it can be viewed here
We are specifically interested in your views on two proposals:
- Bromham Road cycle and pedestrian bridge
- Wixams Railway Station
Bromham Road cycle and pedestrian bridge
As part of our commitment to sustainable transport, Bedford Borough Council is proposing the installation of a new cycle and pedestrian bridge over the railway.
It would segregate cyclists from the busy A4280 Bromham Road at the position of the railway bridge over the Midland Mainline.
Wixams Railway Station
The original plan for the Wixams development included the provision of a railway station. Following considerable delays and an absence of any progress on building a station through the planning process, Bedford Borough Council is proposing to step in and commit £14 million of capital funds to fill the funding gap and deliver the station.
These funds would be recouped from a share of the fares through an agreement with the rail industry.
What happens next?
Responses to the consultation will be considered by the Council’s Executive at its meeting of 23 January 2019. The website will be kept updated and those providing a valid email address will be contacted.
If a decision is made to proceed with the proposals detailed above then they will be subject to the statutory planning process which will give an opportunity for comments on more detailed plans.
