Making a complaint about a food business

If food sold to you is not acceptable, it is normally best to complain directly to the company that sold you the food or the manufacturer.

A good business will listen and address your concerns even though it may not always be their fault.

Typical food complaints

Common food complaints can include:

  • damaged packaging
  • contamination by foreign objects including metal and glass
  • insects found within fruit or vegetable products
  • mould found in food

You can also complain about poor food hygiene or cleanliness of facilities at food outlets where you have eaten from such as restaurants, takeaways and pubs.
