Cost of certificates
Certificates applied for after the date of registration cost £11 each. If the registration is recent (last three months) please contact us to check the price. This includes Short Birth Certificates.
Certified copies of records: order online
You can order a certified copy of the original record of any entry that we hold.
We offer a 24 hour priority service, in addition to the standard 15 working day service.
24 Hour Priority Service (subject to availability)
The fee for this service is £35 per certificate. Each certificate will be issued by 4pm on the same working day for all orders received by 3pm.
Orders received after 3pm will be issued by 4pm on the next working day and posted by Royal Mail standard 1st class*).
If you wish to collect from Borough Hall, Cauldwell Street, Bedford. MK42 9AP please allow one clear working day before collection.

*If you choose to have the certificate(s) delivered by post, we are unable to guarantee delivery as we are reliant on the Royal Mail postage service. We accept no liability for loss, damage or failure of delivery of certificate(s).

Records between April 1999 and March 2009
Bedford Borough Council is unable to provide certificates for events that took place between 1 April 1999 and 31 March 2009 as Central Bedfordshire Council holds the registers for this period.

Bedford Borough Council Registration Service does not hold records of where people were buried.
Making changes to the record or certificate
If you need to correct the information on a certificate please contact the General Register's Office

- Correct a death registration
- Correct a marriage registration
- Adding a father's name to a birth certificate (or re-registering following marriage)
If you have married the mother/father since the original registration you must re-register the child by law.
