Arranging a funeral can sometimes be a very daunting experience. We are here to offer assistance and guidance to you.
- if the death occurs in hospital, the hospital staff will contact the person named by the deceased as next of kin.
- If death is expected and occurs at home, the doctor who attended the deceased during their final illness can certify the cause of death.
- If death is unexpected, the Coroner will be involved and in many instances, a post mortem will be undertaken on the deceased to identify cause of death. Find out more from the Coroner’s office.
There is a list of local funeral directors (Word, 33KB) within the Borough of Bedford who may be able to assist you.
There are no rules to say that you must use a funeral director when it comes to making the arrangements for a funeral.
All arrangements can be made by the family without the use of funeral directors. For more information read our leaflet Funerals without the use of Funeral Directors (Word, 2.8MB) or contact the offices on 01234 718150 where a member of staff will be more than happy to assist you. You can also make an appointment to come in to the offices where a member of staff can sit down with you and go through all the necessary paperwork.
