Enviro-Crime

Bedford Borough Council are focusing on tackling the main ‘Enviro crime’ offences that affect our borough such as fly-tipping, littering, dog fouling, graffiti and fly-posting.  'Enviro crime' offences are criminal offences.

The aims of the initiative are:

  • to reduce littering & dog fouling on the streets
  • to raise awareness of the offence of littering & dog fouling
  • to change attitudes & behaviour by highlighting the offence as socially unacceptable

Bedford Borough Council in exercising any of its enforcement duties adheres to its Environment & Sustainable Communities Enforcement Policy.  This document has been prepared with having regard to the Enforcement Concordat; Good Practice Guide for England and Wales and the Principles of Good Enforcement Standards – Openness; Helpfulness; Complaints; Proportionality and Consistency.  Environment & Sustainability Communities Enforcement Policy.

Reporting A Environmental Criminal Offence

If you see an environmental criminal offence being committed, provide as much information as you can which could be used as evidence and may enable us to prosecute. This can include:

  • A description of the offender
  • Vehicle registration
  • Any photographs

You can report a crime by:

Online Form

  • By calling  01234 718060

Your personal details will be treated as confidential but it may sometimes be necessary for witnesses to give evidence in court. You can remain anonymous, but without your help it will be more difficult to prosecute offenders
