Sports Development

Sports Develoment Logo

The section aims to provide quality opportunities at all levels of sport, promoting sport as an activity that enables individuals to develop their own performances to their maximum potential, whilst highlighting the personal and social benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Sports development is concerned with increasing sporting opportunities for ALL members of the community.

Sports Development Aims and Objectives

Sports Development has a real impact on the agendas of other agencies with initiatives that support health, crime reduction, social inclusion and physical education.

The current work of the Section has been shaped by the Council's Community Plan and the Sports Development Strategy (2010 - 2012), which produce real initiatives that result in long term enhanced quality of life for individuals within the local community The various Council targets outline the corporate aims and objectives. These are all met by Sports Development work.

Sports Development Sports Strategy 2010-2012

Bedford Borough Council has to find £36M in savings to balance our budgets over the next four years (2012 - 2016). To do this we have been working hard, planning and thinking ahead, to develop new and different ways to both modernise and improve the services we deliver. The level of savings required is on an unprecedented scale. We are committed to being an open and transparent council and we welcome views from our residents, service users and other stakeholders. Please visit the Borough Council official consultation page by clicking HERE to have your say on these important future decisions.

If you would like to view the proposals that relate directly to Sport & Leisure they can be found under the heading Adult & Community Services (ACS). Click on ACS proposals (second bullet point) and view ACS proposals 41 - 52
