Equality and Diversity Information
Equality of opportunity and valuing
diversity is at the heart of everything that bedford Borough
Council does. All our policies, service plans, practices and
procedures will reflect and incorporate this
objective.
In providing services and in employing
staff the Council aims to give equal opportunities, treatment, and
access to everyone and will recognise and value
difference.
No individual or group of people will
be treated less favourably than anyone else in applying for
services, for a job or for a contract with the Council because of
their:
- age
- colour
- disability
- ethnic origin
- marital status
- nationality or national origin
- race
- religious or political beliefs
- responsibilities for dependents
- gender
- gender re-assignment
- sexual orientation
- trade union activity
- unrelated criminal convictions
- involvement in public service
The Council will work with the
community to identify and seek ways of overcoming barriers which
prevent them from using Council services.
In putting this policy into action,
the Council will work to make its services accessible to all
sections of the local community.
The Council will take positive steps
to encourage job applications from underrepresented sections of the
community. The Council is aiming to have a workforce which at all
levels fully represents the community.
More information associated with this
mission statement can be found on the Council’s
