19th MARCH 2013: GET COMPOSTING THIS SPRING AND SAVE A
LITTLE MORE!

Bedford Borough Council residents still have time to buy a
discounted compost bin, before a price increase comes in at the
start of April.
Spring is an excellent time for composting. With new shoots
appearing, it’s time to clear out winter’s deadwood from planters
and flower beds and a compost bin is a great way to recycle this
decaying vegetation. Over time it will break down to produce rich
nutritious compost that that will put some life back into the
garden.
Despite the cold start, Easter is almost upon us and is
traditionally the time when gardeners venture out and lay the
foundations for the promise of warmer weather; a flower filled
garden and home grown veg and salad. So get yours
today. The cheapest compost bin currently on offer through a
scheme run by Bedford Borough Council costs £10 with a £5.49
delivery charge.
Compost bins and accessories can be
ordered online: via: http://www.getcomposting.com/
or by calling tel: 0844 571 4444.
MARCH 2013: EXTENDED COMPOST BIN SUBSIDIES
As Spring is fast approaching, we have decided to extend
our compost bin subsidy for the rest of March. We have 2
sizes available and prices start at just £10. But hurry
though, as the prices are set to rise in April.

FEBRUARY 8th: NEW LARGE PAPER RECYCLING
CONTAINERS
Bedford Borough Council’s Waste Services Team are constantly
looking for ways to improve recycling services for the public, and
have recently purchased new containers to improve facilities for
paper recycling at two of our most popular and well used local
recycling sites: Tesco on Cardington Road and Priory Country Park
on Barkers Lane.
Members of the public can already recycle
glass, paper/cardboard, cans/plastic and textiles at both of these
sites. However, the containers used to collect the paper and
cardboard were often damaged making it difficult for members of the
public to use. The locks were often broken enabling non-recyclable
materials to be deposited, which contaminated the load and spoiled
the efforts of others.
The new containers for paper and card are
larger and more tamper-proof thereby improving the service we offer
to the public, keeping the recycling site tidy and ensuring they
are safe, easy and convenient for residents to use.
If you would like more information on local
recycling sites, or recycling in general please follow the links
through to the Rubbish, Recycling and Waste section on the Bedford
Borough Council website – http://www.bedford.gov.uk/ – or
alternatively contact us via recycling@bedford.gov.uk
or 01234 718060.
