North of Bromham Road

Land North of Bromham Road, Biddenham 
Located on the North West edge of Bedford this
development site of approximately 134 hectares extends northwards
from Bromham Road, Biddenham to the River Great Ouse and from the
northern end of Branston Way to the west and the A6 Clapham Road to
the east.
Planning application 01/02199/OUT submitted in
2001 sought planning permission for up to 1200 dwellings;
employment; retail; country-park; open space; landscaping; leisure
and community facilities; a park and ride facility; road linking
the A6 and A428; supporting infrastructure including roads; paths;
cycleways; public transport and car parking facilities on this
site. A decision on this application was not made until after the
adoption of the Land North of Bromham Road, Biddenham: Design Guide
Supplementary Planning Document in 2003. At the September 2003
committee an officer recommendation to approve the planning
application subject to a number of conditions and the signing of a
Section 106 Legal Agreement was agreed by the Committee Members.
Although negotiations on the Section 106 agreement continued after
the committee date it was no possible to secure the agreement of
all the landowners of the site and therefore the decision notice
was not released.
To move the site forwad there are now three new applications
under consideration by this Council. These include the update to
the Environmental Statement supporting the outline application for
the development of the whole site under application 01/02199/OUT, a
new outline application for the development of the western section
of the site reference 11/01934/EIA, and a third outline application
for the development of the south eastern corner for 205 dwellings
under application reference 11/02675/EIA. All three applications
relate to the same development site or part of the wite while a
further application for the development of the golf course site is
anticipated.
