The bypass is a single width carriageway
located to the west of Bedford town and Kempston, Bedfordshire. at
5.1 km in length from the bypass currently links the A428 Bromham
Bypass on the east side of the river to meet the A421 Trun Road at
Woburn Road, Kempston. Planning permission for the final section of
the bypass was granted under application 11/02114/EIA. This
planning permission completes the final section of the bypass to
link the A428 with the A6 at the roundabout junction with Clapham
Road. Works on this final section of the bypass have yet commenced
on site.
The main purpose of the scheme is to link
existing sections of road around the Bedford and Kempston area,
substantially completing the strategy for Western and Southern
bypasses of the towns, By doing so this will improve the
efficiency, safety and reliability of journeys around the area,
relieve the community of through traffic and improve
accessibility.
