Key Services
- We give advice on planning matters, listed
buildings, conservation areas, design, trees and landscape, and
access for disabled people
- We consider planning applications and other
applications such as for works to listed buildings and the display
of advertisements.
- We consult with local people who may be affected
by development proposals.
- We aim to make the best decision on each
application. This may mean refusing permission but can
include suggesting how a different proposal might be accepted.
- We investigate cases where the required planning
permission has not been obtained for development.
- We deal with planning appeals in cases where
permission has been refused or granted subject to conditions which
are unacceptable to the applicant.
- We will on request, tell you formally if you
need planning permission.

Permitted Development
Permitted Development – Certain works do not require the
submission of a planning application because legislation
automatically grants the work planning permission. For your work to
benefit from Permitted Development you have to check it against a
complicated list of criteria. The list covers house holder
proposals, certain commercial schemes and host of other types of
work. House holders can view the “Interactive
House” here, where a guide on what does not require a planning
permission is given. Before proceeding with your scheme it is
recommended you check with the Councils Planning Enquiries Officer
(Tel 01234 221798 between the hours of 8.45am and 12.30pm Mon-Fri)
where your interpretation of the rules can be checked.
