Food Safety & Hygiene

Bedford Borough Council has a statutory duty to
enforce food safety legislation.
There are approximately 1400 registered food premises
within the Borough Council's area ranging from the small home
caterer to the large food manufacturer.
The overall service aim is to ensure that food
produced and consumed within the Borough is safe, wholesome and fit
for consumption. The work of the Commercial Regulation Team
achieves this aim through education and enforcement regarding the
safety and cleanliness of food, this is assessed from production
through to the point of sale.
The Service deals with a wide range of food safety
and hygiene related issues, further information can be
obtained by following the links on the left hand side of this
