Stray Dogs
Lost and stray dogs are dealt with by the Council If you have
lost your dog or find a stray dog then please contact 01234 718099
inside of office hours (8:45- 17:15 Monday to Thursday, 8:45-16:45
Friday) and the matter will be referred to the Dog Warden.
When the dog warden collects a dog they will
see if it is micro chipped or as required by law has a collar with
the owners name and address on a tag. If this is the case it
will be returned to the owner. If there are no details or the
microchip cannot be read or the dog has strayed before then it will
be taken to the kennels.
If a dog that is chipped persistently strays
then it will be taken to the kennels and the owner will need to pay
any costs which are incurred through this before the dog is
returned.
The owner will need to collect the dog and pay
any costs which are incurred before the dog is returned.
If you find a dog straying outside of office
hours then please contact our Out of Hours Service on 01234 267422,
option 6.
Stray dogs will be kept at the kennels for 7 days. After this
time they will begin the re-homing process. If you collect your dog
from the kennels during this period you will have to pay a
statutory fee of £25 and any costs incurred from the kennel before
your dog will be released.
