Accident Reporting
The Reporting of Injuries, Deaths and Dangerous Occurrences
Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) places a legal duty on any employer, self
employed person or someone in control of work premises to report
and record some work-related accidents by the quickest means
possible.
What must I report?
You must report:
- Deaths;
- Major injuries – for example Some
fractures, dislocations and amputations, loss of sight, penetrating
eye injuries, electric shocks and loss of
consciousness;
- Over 3 day injuries – where an employee or
self employed person is away from work or unable to perform their
normal work duties for more than three consecutive
days;
- Injuries to members of the public or
people not at work where they are taken away from the scene of the
accident to hospital;
- Some work related diseases;
- Dangerous occurrences – where something
happens that does not result in an injury but could have
done.

How do I make a
report?
Reports must be made to the Incident Contact Centre using one of
the methods below:
- Telephone: By calling 0845 300 9923 (local
rate) and speaking to an ICC operator
- Online: By filling in the
appropriate form
