Harrold-Odell Country Park

Harrold-Odell Country Park was opened in 1986 following the restoration of a former sand and gravel extraction site. Extraction ceased in 1980 and the Park was established through planting and the flooding of 3 pits to form 3 lakes. The Park has a variety of habitats including woodland; grassland including flood meadow; open water and river. Together with the visitor centre, car parks and access routes; these features form the Park.

The purpose of the Park is to provide an area for informal recreation, blended with conservation. Public access and enjoyment and nature conservation are still the main aims of the park.

The visitor centre houses toilets, a café, the Park office and a small information room. The park has 205,000 visits per year, attracting people from the surrounding area, as well as Northamptonshire and Bucks. People enjoy visiting the Park for its peace and tranquillity and to be close to nature.

At the park we aim:

1) To ensure the best and most appropriate, short, medium and long term management of the Park

2) To maintain and enhance the quality of visitor experience, in light of the anticipated increase in visitor numbers

3) To demonstrate that the Park meets Greenflag Award criteria, and assist in securing this status

4) To demonstrate that the Park meets the Heritage Lottery Fund grant criteria, and assist in securing this funding
