Newly Qualified Teachers

From this page you can access information about the support we provide as a Local Authority for Newly Qualified Teachers. Bedford Borough makes excellent provision and support for its new teachers because we value the energy and enthusiasm they bring to the teaching community.

Bedford Borough LA

We have 81 schools which includes 10 academies covering all phases. We currently operate a three tier system where pupils transfer at the ages of 9 and 13. Our schools serve a variety of rural and urban settings but all are committed to delivering a first class education to Bedford Borough's young people.

What is on offer for NQTs

We have a thorough monitoring system that tracks your progress over your first year. This is supplemented by a core Induction programme that guarantees the support you need. We also have a comprehensive professional development programme offering enrichment opportunities.

All teachers can access the Key Worker Housing programme and in addition some schools offer incentives to NQTs such as early start.

Quality of life

Bedford Borough is centrally located, with fast road and rail links to most parts of the country, and London is less than an hour away. There are excellent facilities for shopping, culture and nightlife in Bedford and other nearby towns like Luton, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Cambridge. However, if you prefer the quiet life, Bedford Borough is also full of charming country villages and stunning scenery.
