School Planning Issues

The main focus for School Property Issues relates to asset management planning for schools from three perspectives. These are the:- 

1. condition - which relates to the physical state of the premises to ensure safe and continuous operation;

2. suitability - how well the premises meet the needs of the pupils and staff in order to raise educational standards; and

3. sufficiency - the quantity and organisation of places within schools. 

The team responsibilities are embraced by asset management planning, including the identification of the need for school places, the negotiation with housing developers for contributions towards education provision, the prioritisation and implementation of projects from Local Authority capital resources and the approval of school projects from devolved and delegated capital funding.

Revocation of Bedford Borough Council's School Reorganisation Plans

Notices proposing the revocation of Bedford Borough Council's reorganisation plans for the majority of the schools in the Borough were published on 14 November 2010.  The Notices were published in Bedfordshire on Sunday and in and around the relevant schools.
