School Planning Issues
The main focus for School Property Issues relates to asset
management planning for schools from three perspectives. These are
the:-
1. condition - which relates to the
physical state of the premises to ensure safe and continuous
operation;
2. suitability
- how well the premises meet the needs of the pupils and staff
in order to raise educational standards; and
3. sufficiency - the quantity and
organisation of places within schools.
The team responsibilities are embraced by asset
management planning, including the identification of the need for
school places, the negotiation with housing developers for
contributions towards education provision, the prioritisation and
implementation of projects from Local Authority capital resources
and the approval of school projects from devolved and delegated
capital funding.
Proposals that are currently the subject of
consultation are:
Revocation of Bedford Borough Council's School
Reorganisation Plans
Notices proposing the revocation of Bedford Borough
Council's reorganisation plans for the majority of the schools
in the Borough were published on 14 November 2010. The
Notices were published in Bedfordshire on Sunday and in and around
the relevant schools.
