Meet the Teachers

David  Rose

David Rose


David Rose has been the Manager of Music for Bedford Borough since January 2017. Previous to that he was Head of Milton Keynes Music Service for 10 years and, since qualifying as a teacher in the early 1980s, has worked in a wide range of educational establishments in Wales, London and, more recently, Buckinghamshire. As a brass player David has played in orchestras and brass bands in Wales, London and currently Milton Keynes. He likes to keep his teaching skills fresh by working in schools on whole class instrumental projects and with a variety of groups at the Music Centre. 


Jessica Bullen

Jess Bullen


Jessica Bullen is a saxophone specialist who graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a first class honours degree in Jazz Saxophone. Jessica is part of a vibrant Jazz scene in the UK and has performed at a variety of events across the country, including the prestigious London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, and further afield at Langnau Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Jessica is also a keen promoter of live music and works with local organisations to bring music to audiences in Bedfordshire. In addition to performing, Jessica works for both Music for Bedford Borough, and the Bedford Music Co-operative as an educator of music. Although the saxophone is Jessica's specialty, she teaches the classical and electric guitar, and enjoys composing and arranging music for small and large ensembles. Jessica is able to bring all of her experience and musical interests to Saturday Morning Music Centre, to offer a wide variety of music education to her pupils.


Chris Hepworth

Chris Hepworth


Chris is the resident expert on all things 'Rock, Pop and IT'.  As well as working at the Music Centre he teaches projects in local schools and is a sound technician in demand by many of the top bands in the UK.


Karen England

Karen England


Karen was born in Derbyshire, she gained a music degree from Leeds University and a Post Graduate Vocal Diploma from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, before starting her career in the chorus of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. As an operatic soloist Karen has worked worldwide performing the role of Carmen for Opera Ireland and singing the role of Wellgunde in Wagner's Das Rheingold under Sir Simon Rattle for the BBC Proms amongst many other performances.

In 2001 she sang at the FA cup with friend Rebecca Knight and signed a recording Contract with Sony records under the duo name OperaBabes which reached No 1 in the classical charts and sold over 4 million copies. Since then she has recorded 3 albums, most recently an album of British song for Warner Classics, has performed with many of the world's leading Orchestras, was the first classical act to perform at the Stardust Casino in Las Vegas, has performed alongside Placido Domingo in Las Vegas and for her Majesty the Queen on several occasions.

Karen still performs with OperaBabes, along side solo performances, private teaching and working as head of singing for Bedford Borough Music Service, coordinating and running the hugely successful Sing On! project.


Will Alleyne

Will Alleyne


Will is a self-employed musician, teacher and Father of three.  Studying Music Composition and Performance at Goldsmiths College (University of London) Since 1996.  Will has worked freelance as a studio and live session violinist, Composer, Arranger, Editor, Producer, and mixer. He still performs on the violin and is currently composing music for production libraries, and publishing houses for use in Film, TV, Theatre and Games with recent music being placed on BBC Networks, Channels 4 and 5 . Will has lived and worked across Asia and Europe.  He has worked as an Educator/ Lecturer within Schools, Colleges and Higher Education, teaching performance, sound engineering, and Music Technology.


Eddie Morgan

Eddie Morgan


Eddie teaches brass and African drumming. He joined Bedfordshire Youth Orchestra where he was lucky enough to be coached by Christopher Larkin and Brendan Thomas. In 2008 he was a member of the World Youth Orchestra and toured Italy and Slovenia and was also the principal horn of the CBSO Youth Orchestra & Academy. After completing his undergraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music, Eddie was offered a scholarship to attend the Royal College of Music where he has recently completed his masters degree.

He has been fortunate enough to perform with singer-songwriter Imogen Heap, Joe McElderry and Diversity for the Queen at Buckingham Palace. He has also performed at the BBC Proms under John Adams with the RAM/Juilliard Orchestra in a concert broadcast on BBC Radio 3. As an orchestral player he free-lances all over the UK with different ensembles such as the Philharmonia Orchestra. Away from the concert hall, Eddie also performs with a number of jazz  and chamber ensembles; including NYJO and the Engines Orchestra . He is the musical director of j5o Brass and has performed with Oompah Brass at the Durham Brass Festival.


Emma Dawes


Emma Dawes is a Peripatetic Instrumental tutor specialising in the Caribbean Steel Pans, Upper Brass and Piano.  Emma attended local Bedfordshire schools and then completed a Joint Honours Degree in Music and English at Middlesex University.  She completed a secondary PGCE at the same institution and became a Head of Music in a local secondary school for 13 years.   As well as teaching the steel pan class projects, Emma is a piano tutor for Beds Central Council and is also an instructor for the 1st Kempston Boys and Girl’s Brigade Band.  As a brass player Emma has also played in brass bands in London and Bedfordshire.
