Unemployment
The Unemployment
spreadsheet provides monthly data on unemployment in Bedford
Borough and its 27 wards from January 2011. Data for previous
years is available from the Deprivation and Worklessness section of
the Borough Statistical Profile.
In April 2013, there were 4,206 people claiming Jobseeker's
Allowance in the Borough. This was 4.2% of the working age
population (16-64) and compares to 3.7% in England and 3.0% in the
East of England.
Using the broader ILO
measure of unemployment, which also includes people seeking work
but ineligible for Jobseeker's Allowance, the Borough's
unemployment rate over the period January 2012 - December 2012
(latest available modelled estimates) was 7.2% of the economically
active population aged 16+. This compares to 7.8% in England and
6.6% in the East of England.
