Population Projections

The most recent population projections for the Borough are the ONS 2016-based Subnational Population Projections for 2016-2041

ONS estimates that the Borough’s population will increase to approximately 185,700, an increase of 7.5% over 2018.

However, the older population is projected to increase at a much higher rate. The 65+ population is projected to rise by 17.4% from 2018 - 2025, and the 85+ population by 20.5%.

Longer term, the population of the Borough is projected to reach 206,400 in 2041. This would represent a 19.4% increase between 2018 and 2041.

Again, however, older age groups are projected to rise by much greater levels, with those aged 65+ increasing by 67.1%, and those aged 85+ by 118.2% (from 4,400 in 2018 to 9,600 in 2041).
