Judging time for Blooming Bedford!

Judges from Anglia in Bloom are set to visit Bedford on Friday 15th July to see just how good Bedford can look.

After a brilliant result in 2010 which saw Bedford receive a Gold award at regional level for the third time, Bedford’s entry will this year be competing against other towns in East Anglia on 15th July.

Two weeks later the town takes to the national stage to compete against other regional finalists from across the UK in August. The other Britain in Bloom finalists in Bedford’s category include Bath, Derry City, Oadby & Wigston, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Darlington and Coatbridge.

The judging tour will cover many different areas of the town including Priory Country Park, The Embankment, Golden Gardens and The Hills Lower School to name a few.

This year the Borough is set for a summer of scrutiny with judges planning to visit more In Bloom projects than ever before. This month will see judging for other Anglia in Bloom entrants including Kempston In Bloom, Brickhill In Bloom, Cauldwell & Kingsbrook In Bloom, Queens Park in Bloom and Turvey in Bloom.

Anyone can help Bedford ‘bloom’ though, as the entry is not just based on the flower displays but on environmental responsibility and community involvement.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:

“This year sees new entries from within the Borough into the Anglia in Bloom competition and the chance for Bedford to represent the region for Britain in Bloom, so there’s lots of local involvement.

Bedford Borough can be tremendously proud of our In Bloom successes over recent years and I am hopeful we will have even more reason to celebrate this summer. Of course it’s nice to win prizes, but the awards are important in as far as they are recognition that our local environment is attractive and well-kept for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.

“In Bloom is not just about planting flowers, it is a community initiative that encourages everyone to work together to make the borough an even better place to live, work and visit.”
