‘MEET THE BUYER’ EVENT IS A
REAL BARGAIN
There was a buzz of excitement in the air yesterday, as some of
the largest organisations in the county gathered at Bedford
College’s, South Bank Arts Centre, in a drive to encourage local
investment. The ‘Meet the Buyer’ event, sponsored by Bedford
Borough Council and organised by Conquest Business Events, was
introduced by the Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson.
It provided an opportunity for a wide-range of businesses; all
just as eager to meet each other, with the ideal chance to talk
business and discuss how they can possibly work together going
forward! Buyers from such companies as Wells & Young,
Lockheed Martin, Autoglass, Bedford
Hospital, Bourns,
Bedford College, and
Bedford Borough Council, attended the event.
Buyers indicated the types of business
relevant to their fields of work; and suppliers were
offered ‘speed meetings’ lasting 10 minutes with each
business.
The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We’ll work in
everyway we can to support those businesses based in Bedford, and
to attract further big names to our borough. We are centrally
located with major improvements being delivered to support our
infrastructure including the £220m dualling of A421, linking the A1
and M1, 14,000+ homes. The Western By-Pass is now in its
2nd stage, with just 1.3 miles of road yet to be
completed before it is fully functional. As a council, it is clear
that we are 100% committed to business growth in Bedford.”
Jon Hillier, Senior Partner, Appointments Company said: “To get
a chance to meet buyers of larger companies is absolutely fantastic
for us as Small and Medium size Enterprise’s (SME’s). It’s the
ideal opportunity to meet people in the underworld of SME business.
It would be virtually impossible to get such businesses all in one
room, if it was not for this event.”
Mahmoud Dairi, Business Development Manager, at Bluechip said:
“As a company we might be buying products from companies further
afield, not knowing that there is a suitable vendor just over the
road! This event is crucial in order to avoid such scenarios. We
value networking with businesses so we can clearly understand
Bedford’s business landscape, and we are very interested in finding
out what local companies are providing.”
All of the buyers requested to see types of
business relevant to their fields of work, which included office
suppliers, IT, building trades and catering. Over 60 ‘speed
meetings’ took place.
