Children's Laureate Set to Visit Harrowden Middle School
Wednesday 17th November
2010
Michael Rosen is one of the best known figures
in the children’s book world. This Friday 19th November, the
Novelist, Author, Percussionist, and Children’s Laureate will visit
Harrowden Middle School, in Bedford.
The Children's Laureate is a position awarded
in the UK once every two years to a distinguished writer or
illustrator of children’s books, and Michael currently holds that
title!
The visit is hoped to encourage pupils to
further enjoy reading and discuss ways in which to develop their
writing skills, to give an understanding of writing structure, so
that others can enjoy their work.
Cllr David Sawyer, portfolio holder for
Children’s Services, at Bedford Borough Council, said: “It’s
important that children enjoy reading and don’t just go through the
motions because they feel they have to. Michael’s passion for
writing and books in general will no doubt prove to be
contagious.”
Michael will address the whole school in a
performance from 10-11am, as he reads aloud some of his works,
which is guaranteed to captivate and amuse the audience.
A Year 6 Poetry Workshop, involving 120
pupils, will take place on the day from 11.30-12.30pm. Then,
at 1.45pm, a book signing session will ensure that each pupil will
receive a copy of a Michael Rosen title signed by the author
himself.
Michael’s books include ‘Little Rabbit Foo
Foo’ and ‘Songbird Story’.
