How Much Do You Think You Know About AIDS
Wednesday 24th November
2010
Bedford Borough Council is helping to raise
Awareness for HIV and AIDS in light of World AIDS Day on Wednesday
1st December. To highlight that HIV is still very much
an issue for people in the UK the theme for this year is ‘Act
Aware’.
‘Act Aware’ encourages people to commit to
actions that will help improve understanding about HIV, prevent HIV
transmissions and stop prejudice by promoting greater understanding
and awareness of the virus.
Bedford Borough Council have pledged to ‘Act
Aware’ this year, promoting the facts about HIV and making a
commitment to promote awareness and understanding. As part of this,
the council have planned the following events;
Wednesday 1st
December – Adult Services Staff have commissioned
voluntary organisation CAFPH (Centre for all Families Positive
Health) to deliver HIV/AIDS training sessions to students studying
to be social workers at the University of Bedfordshire.
Thursday 2nd
December – Adult Services Staff will host information and
advice stands at the University of Bedfordshire student union,
working with other partners from the Sexual Health Network (CAFPH,
Brook Bedfordshire, Teenage Pregnancy, Chlamydia Screening and the
Terrence Higgins Trust) to help promote better sexual health.
There will also be a special informative
display at the Town Hall and Borough Hall, running from the
29th November until the 10th December.
Cllr Nicky Attenborough, portfolio holder for
Adults Services, at Bedford Borough Council, said: “Understanding
AIDS makes it less frightening. It can be prevented. These events
are so important in helping to support a healthy society.”
While the council is doing their bit to raise
awareness in the wider Borough, why not play your part and test
your knowledge about the virus by doing an online quiz? To access
