A Week of Free Parking in Bedford

Bedford is the place for even better value Christmas shopping this year with Bedford Borough Council providing free parking in the car parks across the town centre, from 30th November to 5th December.

New Mayor Dave Hodgson has chosen to introduce the scheme to help kick-start shopping in the run-up to Christmas.

Car parks involved include:

  • River Street
  • St. Peters Street
  • Lurke Street
  • Queen Street
  • Allhallows
  • Riverside Square
  • Duckmill Lane
  • Melbourne Street

As well as Free Parking the council has organised a range of free activities in the run-up to Christmas. Events already planned include a special Christmas Lights Switch On, which takes place along the embankment on the Wednesday 18th November and the annual Victorian Christmas Fair which runs from the 11th – 13th December.

Speaking about the plans for free parking, Mayor Dave Hodgson said:

“I am delighted to announce this week of free parking in the run-up to Christmas. It will provide a real boost for residents and town centre retailers towards the end of what has been a tough year economically for everyone. We want to make it as easy as possible to come to Bedford for your Christmas shopping and I hope this is the kind of incentive that will help.”
