A great summer for recycling in Bedford Borough
Throughout the Great Summer of events in Bedford Borough, local
residents will be encouraged to recycle more than ever before with
extra help on offer at events throughout the borough.
The tenth annual Bedford International Kite Festival takes place
this weekend as part of a series of events across the Jubilee
weekend on Russell Park and the Embankment. In addition to these
events, there will be a number of street parties and community
events taking place throughout the borough. Public events, such as
these can create a significant amount of waste, much of which can
be easily recycled.
Recycling bins will be at Russell Park and the Embankment across
the Jubilee Weekend as well as further summer events, including the
River Festival (21st and 22nd July). This will help residents and
visitors to recycle a range of materials including drinks cans,
paper, plastic bottles and food packaging. All these materials are
valuable resources that can be collected and reprocessed into other
useful materials.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “We are committed
to continuing to improve waste and recycling services in the
borough. We hope that the additional facilities available at events
will make recycling more convenient for residents and visitors and
in turn reduce the amount of waste needlessly going to
landfill.
“I would encourage everyone to make use of these recycling
facilities and help make Bedford not only a cleaner but also a
greener place to live, work and visit.”
If you are planning a street party or other public event to
celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee or the London Olympics
remember to think about the waste that will be produced. Waste can
be reduced by using reusable items where possible - ask around to
see if people are willing to share plates, cups, cutlery and
tablecloths. Bedford Borough Council can also provide extra
containers to help you and your neighbours to recycle as much of
your waste as possible. Please remember to recycle your glass
bottles and jars at your nearest mini recycling
site.
If you are organising an event we can provide you with advice on
how to reduce the amount of waste produced, implement recycling
facilities and encourage visitors to recycle their waste. For more
