Royal Rivercare uncovers some strange finds!
This weekend’s Royal Rivercare event uncovered some bizarre
items lurking in the River Great Ouse! A team of volunteers
descended on a stretch of the river in Queens Park and found:
• 3 safes
• 3 road signs
• 6 car exhaust pipes
• 2 hoovers
• Computer printer
• 28 bags of litter
Joining volunteers for the litter pick were members of the
Bedford Sub Aqua Divers. There was also crown and flag decorating
and volunteers were rewarded with royal refreshments.
The Royal Rivercare event signalled the end of the ‘April Big
Spring Clean’ month of litter picks and special events which took
place across the Borough.
In total, 276 bags of litter were collected as well as plenty of
other bulky items.
‘Flynn the Bin Elf’ and Council Environment and Community
officers also held eight school assemblies and lent litter picking
equipment to the schools so they could have their own litter picks
as well.
Steve Tomlin, Assistant Director of Environment and Communities,
Bedford Borough Council, said: “Our month of clean ups across
Bedford Borough have been immensely successful and has allowed us
to clear 276 bags of rubbish from open spaces across Bedford
Borough.
“We would like to thank the volunteers who came to help
throughout the month as we work together to look after Bedford
Borough.”
