TAVISTOCK COURT
GOES FROM ‘ADEQUATE TO
EXCELLENT’
Tavistock Court, an extra care sheltered
housing scheme located in Bedford’s town centre, was recently rated
as ‘excellent’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). It has taken
Bedford Borough Council’s Adult Services less than a year to change
its rating which was previously marked as ‘adequate’ back in
January 2009.
CQC’s report identified eight requirements
that needed to be met in order to raise the standard. In December
2009, a CQC key inspection awarded a ‘3 Star Excellent Service’ to
Tavistock Court after an ‘Excellence Plan’ was introduced and
carried out.
Cllr Nicky Attenborough, Portfolio Holder for
Adults Services at Bedford Borough Council said: “All of the staff
within Tavistock Court have taken ownership of the ‘Excellence
Plan’ and worked hard to make this turnaround possible. I
congratulate all those involved in making this happen.”
Tavistock Court is owned by Bedford’s Pilgrims
Housing Association (bpha); Bedford Borough Council’s Adult
Services provide an onsite care team 24-hours per day, assisting
customers in their own homes to maximize their independence.
The Mayor of Bedford Borough Council, Dave
Hodgson, said: “Going from an adequate rating to an excellent
rating is a remarkable feat for this authority, and it is something
to be very proud of. It really has been a tremendous effort
by all involved, and is an example of what can be achieved if you
have drive, enthusiasm and something to work towards. Tavistock
Court is now providing an excellent service that supports older
people to remain independent and at home for as long as
possible.”
The Mayor outlined that the future challenge
now, is to maintain the excellent service standard that the team
have set in place.
