Pavenham Park's Official Opening
Friday 7th
May
Pavenham Park, has been provided with £40,000
of government funding from Bedford Borough Council’s £1 million
Playbuilder grant allocation and it’s about to reveal how it has
been spent. The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, will be at
the park’s official launch from 2 – 3pm, on Saturday
29th May.
Pavenham Park secured the Department of
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) funding due to the parish
council’s innovative application and plans to provide a public play
space that meets the play needs of local children and young
people.
The Playbuilder scheme is open to voluntary
organisations, community groups and council departments – the
project provides an average of £50,000 for each public play space
and has allocated funds for at least 22 projects to be completed by
March 2011.
Cllr Barry Huckle, Portfolio Holder for Arts
and Leisure, at Bedford Borough Council said: “The purpose of the
Playbuilder scheme is to enable children and young people to enjoy
fun and active opportunities in a range of safe, creative and
accessible environments throughout the borough. We are pleased to
be able to work together with the support of the DCSF, so that
Pavenham Park provides such a place.”
The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson,
said: I look forward to seeing first hand how Pavenham Park has
been revamped to really give local children and young people
something to enjoy and to take pride in. Children and young people
have a sense of ownership and civic pride in their play areas, and
often form memories that can last a lifetime.”
Prior to its revamp, Pavenham Park had a
1970’s play area, consisting of an original Wicksteed slide, an
igloo-shaped climbing frame and rocking horse (seating up to five
children). Now, the park has a range of more modern playground
attractions such as a zip wire and climbing wall – aimed at a wider
age group. The park is also deemed to have heightened safety
aspects; the floor is matting instead of bark.
Young people, their friends, and family are
all invited to come along to the Pavenham Park’s official launch to
enjoy the imaginative, challenging and stimulating play area for
themselves!
