Allhallows Toilet to Close for Refurbishment
17th March 2011
Public toilets at Allhallows will close shortly to enable
refurbishment works to be carried out.
Signs have been added to warn the public of the closure which
will see new floors laid in the male and female toilets and also
see new fittings and improvements made to the ladies toilet
including new wash basins, toilets and warm air hand dryers.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The public
toilets by the bus station are well-used by visitors to the town
and by local residents, and that is why we are prioritising their
refurbishment.
“We are pressing forward with plans for the redevelopment of the
bus station area, and in the meantime we are doing all we can to
improve the public facilities there. These refurbishment works
follow the £67,000 improvement programme in the bus station itself
we delivered in partnership with Stagecoach.
“At a time when other local authorities are closing their public
toilets here in Bedford we are investing to improve ours and make
sure they are up to the standards rightly expected by local
residents.
“Many residents have approached us asking for improvements to
these toilets, and I hope people will understand that the toilets
will have to be closed for this short period to allow the
refurbishment works to be carried out.”
Other public toilets in the town centre will remain open during
this time.
