Free Wheeled Bin Bonanza
With spring just around the corner, Bedford Borough Council is
offering extra help for local residents to boost their
recycling.
Did you know 7,800 tonnes of mixed recyclables from homes in
Bedford Borough - including paper, plastic and cans - is still
going to landfill each year? By recycling all of these items
in the orange lidded bin residents could help save taxpayers an
estimated £500,000 per year.
In an effort to help local residents recycle more and reduce
spiralling landfill costs, residents who do not have an orange or
green lidded bin can get their hands on one for free. In addition,
anyone who would like a second orange or green recycling bin can
purchase one for just £15; half the usual price.
Both of these offers are available now and will continue until
31st March 2011.
Residents are also able to purchase extra rolls of orange
recycling bags for just £6.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Residents in
Bedford Borough are now recycling around 40% of their rubbish but
we can do better. For example, only around 25% of tin cans and 34%
of cardboard are recycled in the orange lidded bins. If we can
increase that, we can save around £500,000 per year. This is local
taxpayers’ money which could be invested on other services in the
borough.
“We want to work with local residents to improve the recycling
rates and I believe that offering these deals on the orange and
green recycling bins as well as the orange sacks will help to
increase recycling rates across the borough.
“Recycling and composting your waste really couldn’t be easier
so don’t delay; get your free bin or half price second bin
today!”
The bins on offer are 240 litre wheeled bins, both orange and
green lidded.
