Extra Rewards for Volunteering
Wednesday 10th March
The ‘Lets Tidy Bedford Together’ campaign is
continuing this month and to celebrate the Pride in Bedford Team
are offering extra incentives to those who volunteer at litter pick
events in March.
It’s all part of the Keep Britain Tidy
campaign, which includes Bedford Borough Council as one of eleven
authorities designated as a Champion for the campaign and these
incentives coincide with the news that the council has been named
as a Champion for a further six months.
There are eleven litter picks planned for
March which are open to all volunteers. Anyone who gets involved
will not only receive a Big Pride Point (which can be redeemed at
certain levels for rewards such as swimming vouchers and cinema
tickets) they will also receive a free parking voucher or crème
eggs for under 16’s.
It is hoped that this special promotion month
will encourage more people to volunteer and add to the 863 bags
that have already been collected by volunteers since the start of
the campaign in September.
The first litter picks took place last weekend
at Little Staughton, Willington (see picture), Swineshead and
Pertenhall with 77 volunteers taking part.
Councillor Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder
for the Environment, said: “I am delighted at the work done by the
Lets Tidy Bedford Together campaign and all our volunteers who work
so tirelessly for Bedford.
“These little incentives are just a small
token of our appreciation for all the work done to keep the borough
a clean and green place to live and work.”
There is still time to collect your free
parking voucher or crème egg at any of the other March litter pick
events which take place every Saturday morning between
10-12noon.
There are three picks taking place this
weekend and a list of events and their meet up points are available
on the Council website www.bedford.gov.uk
