Borough Charity Tree Campaign
Bedford Tree Fund is launching a campaign to raise £10,000 to
plant 1,000 new trees across Bedford Borough by 2014.
The Bedford Tree Fund [1] is a registered charity working
to raise funds from local residents and businesses to support the
planting and upkeep of trees in the Borough’s public parks, streets
and green spaces. Established in 1997, Bedford Tree Fund has
already supported the planting and maintenance of over 1200
additional trees across the Borough.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Bedford Borough
Council maintains more than 24,000 trees which help to make our
urban and rural areas more green and attractive places in which to
live, work and visit.
“However, many of our public trees are of a similar age and
sadly approaching the end of their natural lives. We will
continue to maintain and plant new trees in the borough. However,
the Bedford Tree Fund allows anyone to help support the planting
and upkeep of trees across the borough and raising £10,000 will
help future generations to continue to enjoy and benefit from tree
lined streets and parks.”
Bedford Tree Fund welcomes donations of any size. For example,
£10 will enable it to plant 2 or 3 small trees as part of a larger
group; £40 to plant a fruit tree in an orchard or school; and £100
to plant a two metre tall tree in an open space. It also
offers a £250 commemorative tree gift, for anyone looking for
something special to dedicate to a loved one or friend.

trust (Registration number 1063688) established by the Borough
Council in 1997 to: ‘enhance and improve the environment of the
Borough of Bedford, for the benefit of all its inhabitants, by the
planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs and plants in the open
