The Making of Bedford

The Making of Bedford

Residents of the Borough are in for a historical treat on Sunday 17th July at Bedford’s Priory Country park with ‘The Making of Bedford’ event.

History will be literally coming to life in a fun day out for all the family with interactive displays, period actors and a wealth of information on the origins of Bedford.

Priory Country Park itself has a colourful past dating back many centuries. Excavations carried out by Albion Archaeology have uncovered Roman villas, a medieval priory and a Tudor mansion. Guided tours around the park will reveal the sites of past occupations as well as existing archaeological evidence.

Visitors to the event are urged to take the time to wonder through the Wryngwyrm Viking village and see the gentler side of the fearsome invaders. Trained craftspeople in the art of Viking technology such as woodwork, leather, bone, blacksmiths, cloth makers and needle workers will be on hand to explain their ancient craft.

Councillor Doug McMurdo, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said; “This is a fantastic event for Bedford, which will celebrate our rich heritage and make people more aware of Bedford’s roots.”

The event is free to attend and starts at 11:00am – 3.00pm at Priory Country Park. For more information and a full list of activities please visit http://www.bedford.gov.uk/
