Rivercare Event Hopes to Impress ‘In Bloom’ Judges
This weekend will see a touch of rivercare coming to The Great
Ouse as the Pride in Bedford community clean up hits the Prebend
Street area of the river this coming Saturday.
It’s just days to go before Anglia In Bloom judges visit the
town to see how it measures up against tough competition from
across the Anglia region. The impact of the clean up, the second
rivercare event of the year, could hold the balance when it comes
to the awards received locally so everyone is being encouraged to
join in and make the area shine.
Bedford Sub Aqua Divers and Viking Kayak Club will be joining
volunteers and the borough’s Pride in Bedford Team to litter pick
the banks and surrounding areas.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson said;
“These Rivercare cleans ups really make a difference to the way
that we are able to enjoy the jewel that is our river and
embankments. It is a case of the more the merrier, and I
encourage anyone interested to get along to this event and take
pride in Bedford and in this area of the river.”
The event runs from 10am until Noon. Volunteers are asked to
meet up at the footpath over the bridge on Prebend Street. All
equipment will be supplied. Refreshments will also be available on
the day for all volunteers.
