The Jewel in Bedford’s Crown, this entertaining and informative circular walk along the riverbank, described as being one of the finest riverside settings in England, takes in the Victorian Embankment, its bridges and ornamental gardens. A Royal Charter, a not so ‘civil’ war and a castle removed stone by stone. View the castle mound and the site where Bedford’s motte and bailey castle once stood. Booking is essential. A historical look down the High Street and around Bedford’s shopping centre. See how shopping has changed over the last two hundred years for both shoppers and shopkeepers and the part which individual family businesses played.
