Council uses CCTV to Tackle Dangerous Parking Outside Bedford Borough Schools

Over 100 tickets have been issued for illegal and dangerous parking outside local schools in the first term of this school year.

Over several months last year, fixed cameras went live outside Edith Cavell Primary School on Manton Lane, St John Rigby Primary School on Polhill Avenue, and Lincroft Academy and Oakley Primary School in Oakley village.

These cameras were put in place to issue fines for illegal parking, in a bid to stop this kind of behaviour and to help keep school children and other road users safe.

Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for Transport said “Following legislation changes, we were no longer able to use mobile CCTV to help keep our roads safe and enforce against illegal parking. We have now invested in these new fixed cameras which help protect children outside our local schools and keep them safe.”
