Consultation

To make enforcement against anti-social behaviour even more effective, Bedford Borough Council is consulting on removing the discount for paying a Fixed Penalty Notice early.

The Council has Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) in place to give the Council the power to enforce against anti-social behaviour by issuing Fixed Penalty Notices. If brought into effect, the removal of the discount will mean that someone issued a fine will no longer get a £25 discount for paying it early, and will instead be charged the full £75.

These PSPOs include cycling through the pedestrianised town centre at certain times, dog fouling, the exclusion of dogs from certain areas such as play parks, and areas where dogs must be on leads.

In addition, the Council has contracted Kingdom to issue fines for littering and later in the year Kingdom will start issuing tickets for these additional offences.

Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said “Removing the early discount payment alongside increased levels of enforcement with Kingdom officers on our streets will provide an even more effective deterrent against these offences. Please reply to the consultation and give us your thoughts.”
