Women and Girl's Sports Festival
Women and Girls from across the Borough are invited to come
along to a special sports festival being held on Saturday
25th January. The second annual Women and Girls Sports
Festival is open to all ages, and abilities, interested in finding
out information or trying some of the sports available locally.
The free event, at the Bunyan Centre, aims to entertain with a
wide-range of activity taster sessions from wheelchair basketball
to fitness classes and face painting to bouncy castle fun. The
event starts at 11am and activity will be taking place until 4pm
with visitors welcome to drop in at anytime.
Bedford Borough Council have organised the event to provide more
opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sport locally.
There will also be demonstrations throughout the day and
information areas where you can find more out about the activities
and classes that are on offer.
Cllr Doug McMurdo, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture,
said: “Sport England research has identified that only 19% of adult
women in Bedford participate in the recommended amount of physical
activity per week. There is also a significant drop out rate for
girls participating in three hours of P.E and out of hours school
sport per week from school years 8 to 9. With so much on offer
locally, we wanted to show how taking part in regular physical
activity is easy, enjoyable and affordable.”
Details of activities taking place and programme for the day are
available at www.bedford.gov.uk/sport
Stalls attending on the day include:
Team Beds & Luton
Sports Development and Leisure Card
Priory Sailing Club
Adult males are welcome to attend in order to supervise and
support those taking part on the day.
Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
