Hinwick Bridge

Damaged Hinwick bridge to undergo repairs

The listed Hinwick bridge near Podington, damaged by a vehicle crashing into one of its parapets, is to undergo repairs at the end of the month.  Situated on the Hinwick road, the bridge was built in 1799 by the owner of Hinwick House and listed in 1987.

Repairs to the bridge will commence on 26th February and will necessitate closure of the road for the period.  Bedford Borough Council has advised local residents that work will be undertaken 7days a week to expedite the repairs and keep within the three week timeframe.

Cllr Charles Royden, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, commented:  “We are sure local residents will understand the need to make the repairs using the safest and quickest methods available.  We will be working 7 days a week to keep the closure to a minimum and thank the Podington community for its support.”

If you wish to discuss working arrangements relating to this work please telephone the Highways Helpdesk on 01234 718003

Hinwick Bridge Update

Due to the unseasonably cold weather the lime mortar works, required to repair the damage to the bridge, cannot currently be completed. This means the work and subsequent road closure will now commence on the 12th March when it is anticipated the weather will have improved enough for the lime mortar to be used. Work will then take place 7 days a week in order to complete the repairs as quickly as possible, with completion expected by 29th March. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
