'A Walk in the Woods'

‘A Walk in the Woods’ with Access Bedford

Join Access Bedford for a Deaf BSL (British Sign Language) tour of ‘A Walk in the Woods’ at The Higgins Bedford.

‘A Walk in the Woods’ is an exhibition of watercolours, drawings and prints from the last two hundred years highlighting the importance and enduring popularity of trees in art, and coincides with the 800th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest. The pieces have been drawn from the world-famous Cecil Higgins Collection.

On Saturday 10th February from 11am-1pm, Access Bedford are holding a Deaf BSL tour of this exhibition, followed by an art workshop.

Cllr Sarah-Jayne Holland, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said “I’m delighted that we are working with Access Bedford to make it as easy as possible for more people to visit and enjoy this exhibition. ‘A Walk in the Woods’ will be leaving The Higgins Bedford in late February, make sure you don’t miss it!”

Catherine Wright, Chair for Access Bedford said “We are very lucky in Bedford to have great access to arts and culture because of how inclusive The Higgins is. Often Deaf people who have British Sign Language as their first language are excluded from events like this. Peter who is leading the tour is Deaf and passionate about Art History and really enjoys sharing his knowledge with Deaf visitors who travel from far and wide to take part in these BSL tours”.

This is a British Sign Language only event – no oral instruction will be given. This is a free event, but booking is essential. To book your place please email thehiggins@bedford.gov.uk
