The Journey Begins Towards Transport Solutions
Bedford Borough Council is taking the
necessary steps to move towards a less congested and smooth
transport operation for the Borough. Key stakeholders, who
influence Bedford’s long-term transport vision, are to meet
tomorrow (Thursday), at Borough Hall, to discuss plans for an
outstanding transport vision.
The morning forum will provide the opportunity
to reach agreement on the transport challenges facing Bedford, so
that they can be addressed effectively.
Chairing the forum will be Bedford Borough
Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment & Transport, Charles
Royden, who commented: “I believe fundamental to a successful
resolution to our transport congestion in Bedford is the completion
of the bypass and the provision of an additional river crossing at
Batts Ford. This will allow us to consider some exciting new
provisions, such as the pedestrianisation of the High Street.”
The Mayor of Bedford, Dave Hodgson said:
“Improving local transport links will allow us to maximise the
Borough’s potential as a great place to live, work and visit. The
gathering on Thursday will be a thoroughly useful meeting of minds,
and will enable us to start work on developing the policies which
will address the challenges we face.”
The opening of the new western bypass has
recently seen the A6 re-routed and the High Street is set to become
the A600 – out of government regulation.
Bedford Borough Council is looking forward to
working with all the organisations that provide transport within
the Borough.
