Mural Art Project at Wilstead
Friday 6th August 2010
The underpass at Wilstead looks set to get a
makeover as Bedford Borough Council’s Community Safety Team,
Integrated Youth Support and The Youth Offending Team have been
working on a Mural Art Project, which is set to be completed on
Friday 27th August.
Cllr Barry Huckle has been actively supporting
the project which received £1,290 from the Street Cred Funding
stream.
So far, Bedford Borough Council have held two
consultation meetings with young people from Bedford Day Care
Centre and members of the local community about possible ideas for
the mural planned for the underpass between the Wixams and
Wilstead. Students from Bedford College then took these ideas and
have produced a design.
Cllr Barry Huckle, Portfolio Holder for Arts
& Leisure, at Bedford Borough Council said: “This project just
goes to show when young people are engaged in positive activities,
they can make a real difference to both improving their lives and
their community at the same time.”
Amey along with some members of Community
Payback Scheme will be cleaning one side of the tunnel over the
next two weeks, and then between 16th – 27th
August, Bedford Borough Council will run the project which will
involve young people, students from Bedford College, members from
the Bedford Day Care Centre and members of the local community,
painting the mural.
