New partnership for Household Waste Recycling Centre
Following a full tender process, Bedford Borough Council is
delighted to announce it has now awarded the management and
operation of the Household Waste Recycling Centre to HW Martin
Waste Limited.
HW Martin Waste Limited will take over operation of the site for
five years from 21st June 2012. The contract was tendered as the
previous contract, which was inherited from the former County
Council, expires in June.
The Household Waste Recycling Centre, situated on Barkers Lane,
is open 7 days a week and provides an excellent facility for local
residents to recycle a huge range of materials in a safe and
convenient set up.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “The Household
Waste Recycling Centre provides an excellent service for local
residents and is ranked among the highest performing recycling and
reuse sites in the UK.
“This new contract is great news for local residents as it
ensures the HWRC will remain open 7 days a week and continue to
recycle a huge range of materials as well as saving £270,000 per
year of local taxpayers’ money.
“This is the second new waste partnership we have announced in
recent months. They both ensure that local residents will continue
to receive an excellent level of service, while the contracts will
save a combined £370,000 per year, helping to protect these
frontline services.”
James May, Marketing Manager at HW Martin Waste Ltd, added: “The
Barkers Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre is an excellent
example of a well-designed and built HWRC, making recycling
pleasant and hassle-free for the public.
“We are very proud that Bedford Borough Council has entrusted us
with the management of the site for the next 5 years. Our
experience in HWRC management is second to none; Barkers Lane will
see recycling increase whilst bringing real savings for the Council
and its residents.”
