First Rivercare of 2012
Ahead of a great summer in Bedford Borough, the first Rivercare
event of 2012 takes place on Saturday 28th April.
The Kite Festival, Olympic Flame relay and
River Festival will all involve the River Great Ouse this summer
and it is vital it is looking its best for the all the
celebrations.
Organised by the Pride in Bedford team at
Bedford Borough Council, a series of Rivercare events will take
place throughout the summer along the river from Queens Park to the
Aspects leisure park.
Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said:
“The River Great Ouse is something everyone in the borough can be
proud of and, naturally many of this summer’s events will be using
the river and embankment area.
“The Council’s Community Rivercare events give
everyone the chance to come together and help to improve the river
and embankment in a fun and friendly atmosphere and I am sure this
year’s Rivercare events will see a great turn out of volunteers
once again.”
Sub Aqua Divers and the Viking Kayak Club will
be in the water removing rubbish from the surface and riverbed.
The event runs from 10am till noon and
volunteers are asked to meet at Queen’s Bridge, The Slipe off Ford
End Road. All equipment will be provided, volunteers are asked to
wear suitable clothing and footwear.
